Mages
Our reviews of the following Mage guides are meant to help you achieve level 85 on your new Alliance chars as fast as possible. Frost, Fire, Arcane it doesn't matter. These guides let you play the way you want while helping you reach your goals as fast as possible. Mages are one of the most fun paths to play. I suggest you have fun leveling, which these guides provide, and not just blow through everything.
Mage is a spell caster class that makes their mark using ranged DPS. One of the signature features of the Mage class is the variety of AoE's (Area of Effect) they have at their fingertips. Through their AoEs, Mages can deliver a great deal of damage. They frequently top the damage charts in PvE. Besides their high DPS potential, the Mage is sought out for groups for a unique crowd control ability they possess. They can turn foes into helpless sheep by using Polymorph. This is also frequently used in PvP to render an opponent totally helpless.
Considering PvE, the two Mage abilities of Counterspell and Remove Curse can be helpful in a multitude of encounters. Sometimes, it is absolutely necessary. Besides lifting curses, Mages can also aide their group by conjuring HP restoring food and Mana restoring drinks. This ability scales with the Mages' level and will always be appreciated whether in PvP or PvE by other players. Another helpful ability the Mage has is Teleport. The Mage can create a portal to capital cities, and those who share a group with the Mage are able to travel through it. It makes from quick and convenient travel.
Mage is a relatively popular class, and is availability to a variety of races on both the Horde side and Alliance side. Humans, Gnomes, Undead, Trolls, Blood Elves, and Draenei have the Mage class as an option. No matter which race you are, or faction you have sided with, it's best to keep in mind that this class does indeed take practice due the low HP and armor class. But, it also has a great deal of potential in a variety of settings. The class is absolutely necessary in some encounters and can be very enjoyable in PvP with their potentially burst damage. Practice makes perfect when it comes to playing a Mage. Yet many will tell you, it definitely pays off.
With low survivability, and the restriction to cloth armor, one of the Mages abilities is very helpful. Blink lets the Mage "sprint" forward, creating a quick getaway when needed. Blink is frequently used by Mages in PvP to get away from their enemies. A spec chosen to increase survivability is Frost. Frost is a good spec for those that want to utilize a multitude of AoEs. It's also said to be a good spec for leveling and PvP, thinking on the ability to freeze enemies in place and slow their movement. This will benefit the Mage and work to counteract their rather poor survivability. Regardless of how helpful Frost can be, Arcane and Fire will usually beat Frost in DPS.
Considering the other talent trees of the Mage class, Arcane and Fire, there are some distinct differences. Arcane Mages enjoy a greater amount of intellect (through utilizing certain talents). Intellect is sought out by Mages on their gear and is essentially important to the Mage class for improved mana rejuvenation. Mages should also seek out stamina to increase survivability due to their low AC and low HP. Fire specced Mages are encouraged to seek out gear with critical strike to maximize the effectiveness of their spells. Fire Mages also can produce the highest DPS out of the Mage spec choices. No matter which talent tree a Mage commits to, they are to choose from Staves, Wands, Daggers, and Swords. Which weapon the player chooses is left up to their personal preferences. No matter what gear or weapon you choose, it's left up to you to make the most of this class. If you enjoy utilizing magic to deliver some awe inspiring damage, you may very well want to consider Mage as your class.
