Shamans are known as "spiritual leaders" who draw upon the elements for various necessities. Shamans have quite a bit to offer as a class. If you aren't quite decided on what role you'd like to fill in a group, or even if you aren't decided on PvE/PvP tracks... Shaman may be just the class you were looking for. As with any other class, the Shaman has three talent trees to spend their talent points in, these three trees are Elemental, Enhancement and Restoration. Shamans may very well be the most versatile class in the game, arguably. Once only an option for the Horde, Shaman is now available to the Alliance as well. With the implementation of the Dranei race with Burning Crusade, came the ability for Alliance player's to take a crack at playing a Shaman. Besides the Dranei, on the Horde side one can choose to be a Shaman if they choose Orc, Tauren or Troll as a race.

Alliance Shaman Guides
This class offers a variety of talents and tools for players' to utilize, to not only aide themselves but to increase the efficiency of their group. As a caster, the Shaman can deliver some pretty heavy DPS, and they are extremely effective healers as well. If you have a Restoration Shaman in your group, and you happen to wipe on an encounter (or even a trash mob), the Shaman has the ability to resurrect himself and then start resurrecting other slain group members. Wiping can test a groups' overall morale, but if you have a Shaman ... things may be a touch less frustrating.

As a Shaman, you will be able to utilize a decent armor class. You won't be restricted to cloth like other caster classes (such as Mage, Warlock or Priest). As of level 40, you will have the ability to use Mail. This greatly increases survivability in a PvP or PvE setting. The different weapons available to a Shaman vary and which one you choose will depend whether you are choosing to heal, fill the role of caster DPS or melee DPS. Whatever you choose, you have the following weapons to wield: One-Handed Maces, Two-Handed Maces, Staves, Fist Weapons, One-Handed Axes, Two-Handed Axes, and Daggers.

No matter the weapon you have in your hands, one of the greatest weapons a Shaman has is their chain lightning. This spell can pack a heavy blow to enemies. Any spell the Shaman can use can be bettered by their totems. Unlike any other class, Shaman's have the ability to drop totems on the ground which can do anything from stop an enemy in their tracks, draw aggro, or regenerate the group's mana at a faster rate. Also, any group that decides to bring a Shaman in will enjoy the possibility of using Bloodlust, which increases spell damage, heals and attack power. Sometimes if you run into a tough encounter and aren't sure if you have enough DPS to pull it off, Bloodlust may get you through it.
